How safe is the Internet?

Beware! Not all WebSites are safe! There are a huge heap of sites that are not suitable for children.

There are many scam sites and also there are people who will try to get your personal information, either to sell or perhaps for a more dangerous purpose.  Don't give away personal information!

How do you stop children from going on inappropriate WebSites or downloading viruses?

Answer 1: Always supervise your children when they are on the computer.

Answer 2: Education – Children should be aware of some of the consequences of visiting inappropriate sites and should be trusted to be sensible enough not to go there, except by accident.

Answer 3: Software – There are various programs you can install to block unwanted WebSites and options such as Google SafeSearch which should always be turned on. Many anti-virus programs also block bad WebSites. But no software works perfectly or takes the place of common sense or supervision.
